Djo and Tame Impala at TD Garden

Last night I had the pleasure and the opportunity to attend what I now consider one of my favorite concerts to date. For someone who has been a long-time fan of both Djo and Tame Impala, it was phenomenal to experience both of their performances together in one night.

We started off the night with Massachusetts' very own Djo. This band has recently been sending shockwaves within the music industry, and it's very easy to see why. They have created something so unique out of such a familiar sound they go from having a very indie/pop influence with hints of rock to then having taken certain influences from electronic music. Playing the song

“Awake” off of their “The Crux Deluxe” album, the show begins. I personally find this choice to be a particularly interesting choice of song to start their set. The reason why i found it to be somewhat peculiar is that this song has a very melancholic and dissociative sound, and typically similar artists will either start the night off with their hit song or one that is energetic in sound, but I think this choice was very unique and well thought out with the intention of setting the mood and getting everyone in the right mindset. The rest of the set continues after that, most of which is extremely hard not to dance to. It was very refreshing and heartwarming seeing everyone dancing and screaming their favorite songs together and just genuinely having a good time. One of the key moments that really stuck out to me was when we got to the part of the set where the song “End of Beginning” was playing. There was a part of the song where Joe Keery had stopped singing and all you could hear was the entire venue singing the song back to him, and almost every person in their had their camera lights up. Honestly, in the few times of me seeing Djo live and heard this song live, this instance was the most touching and jaw-dropping time yet. It is truly hard to put into words just how it was to be in the room at that very moment, but I'm very thankful that i was present for it.

We then get to the later half of the night when it was finally time to experience the wonder of Tame Impala. Now im usually a women of many words but i was near speechless. All I can really say is if you ever felt the urge or want to feel what its like to be put inside a kaleidoscope then I recommend coming to one of their shows. From the dreamy vocals and sounds to the psychedelic visuals and lights i’d say its the closest you will get to that experience. Some of my favorite songs to see and hear were definitely “Elephant” with its booming basslines, “let it happen” for the lighting and confetti, and ‘Breath deeper” for all of the dancing it made me do.

Some of the moments that i really enjoyed was when Kevin Parker went off of the stage and walked the barricade which i just know for a fact made a lot of fans very happy. My next favorite was the B Stage segment of the show where Kevin was set up on a circular stage that was adorned with table lamps, pillows, and a DJ set up which he then went on to play a DJ set for everyone. I particularly liked the B Stage set because to broke up the set in a way where it would help the main set not loose its novelty and impact which i appreciated. All in all it was a spectacular night filled with lights, dancing, and lots of confetti and i couldnt ask for more!
